The very
first units of the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 have already left the Ford Flat
Rock assembly plant and are on their way to customers. However, they will not
be identical to what was announced. Designers have made some subtle styling
changes to the Mach 1 to ensure that the returning legend is perfect for
consumers.
Beware,
these changes aren't that impressive. But placed side by side, photos of the
advertised models and those leaving the factory clearly show the changes.
First of
all, the designers took the Mach 1 badges, previously all black, and gave them
a silver border to make them stand out better from the darker exterior paint.
Next, Ford
changed the lower grille from magnetic grey to glossy black to make the front
even more threatening . Finally, the fender strips were retouched on the front
edge to improve both quality and production process.
Will most
people even notice these subtle changes? Probably not, but as Ford points out,
in the world of the Ford Mustang, every little nuance has a purpose. The team
wanted to make sure the reborn Mach 1 was absolutely perfect and worthy of its
predecessors, and they're obviously pleased with the finished product.
The Ford
Mustang Mach 1 2021 is powered by a modified version of Ford's 5.0-litre V8,
which produces 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Transmission
options include the Tremec 3160 6-speed manual transmission and Ford's 10-speed
automatic transmission.
Of course,
the Mustang Mach 1 is the exceptional return of the beast. Its Magneride suspension,
stiffer chassis and modified steering make it more sporty and dynamic than
ever. But the Ford Mustang continues to be available in all versions, from the
simple convertible to the powerful Shelby. It's up to you to choose your modern
legend.
